Axalto partners with Telespree for user provisioning service
ATLANTA March 22, 2004
11:08 AM EST - Smart-card company Axalto today announced a
new deal with Telespree to offer a user-provisioning service that essentially
eliminates the need for a salesperson. The companies said the product
allows carriers to fully activate new subscribers automatically over
the air. The new product is one of a host of new Axalto offerings.
Axalto and Telespree said they teamed to develop their Self-Service
Set-Up product for GSM carriers using subscriber identity module cards.
The service uses Telespree's self-service technology and works through
Axalto's SIM cards. It can remotely run credit checks on new users and
then allow them to select either prepaid or postpaid wireless service,
all without the need for retail or call center support.
"I think what we've done is provide a suite of tools for the customer
as well as for the carrier," said Jack Jania, Axalto's director
of field marketing.
Axalto, formerly known as Schlumberger Smart Cards & Terminals,
plans to demonstrate a range of new technologies and services at the
CTIA Wireless show in Atlanta. Among its offerings, the company will
show off its new Simgo service, which allows carriers to remotely add
new menu options to subscribers' mobile phones, thus supporting TV voting
applications and other services.
"It allows you to build applications and menu structures over the
air and then remove them," Jania said.
Axalto also plans to demonstrate its Simsave service, which allows users
to back up their phone's address information onto a network, thus protecting
against lost or stolen devices. Jania said the company counts two European
carriers as Simsave customers, although he declined to name the carriers.
